Here it is folks… many many pictures of outfits! 30 for 30 you will not defeat me even though life is busy. I am actually really enjoying the challenge of coming up with these outfits.

I think that outfit 16 is one of my favorites.It doesn’t look especially exciting in this picture but with the belt I just loved the way it laid in real life. I can’t wait to dress this shirt up with either my black skirt or gray skirt. I also think that it would I have had this shirt for a long time but rarely wear it. That is why I picked it for the challenge – to see if I still wanted it in my closet. I think that I am finding more ways to wear it and that it will still be welcome in my closet.

Day 18 is another favorite in this batch. I love wearing that polka dot skirt as a shirt. It is such a fun pattern and even more fun to pattern mix it with the stripes in the flower. I also think that this brings in a fun hint at spring which has been trying to show some appearances lately.

I like the pattern mixing in the first two outfits. I think that it is really fun to throw leopard in there.

Happy Valentine’s Day Everyone! I had an AWESOME day!! Josh got me some beautiful lilies and a heartfelt card. He got Chloe a balloon and two super cute stuffed animals. Chloe and I made Josh some cookies and some handmade valentines. It was also beautiful outside and we were able to take a nice long walk today.

I have a new obsession – this belt. I have been wearing it a lot lately. I just love the color and the details and the fact that it pretty much goes with everything in my closet. Am I wearing it too much? What do you think?

Weekend Wear (10, 11,& 12)

I know that I went MIA this weekend… but sometimes you gotta do that to spend more time with the hubs and kid. My husband gets every other Friday off work and so we took advantage of that and spent some quality time as a family (he has been working late during the week pretty much everyday since Chloe came home). So here are the outfits –

Friday

I pretty much love this plaid shirt. I think that it can go with just about everything in my closet. I am going to make it work in at least 5 more outfits. We went into Old Town with the dog on Friday. It is always fun hanging out at the dog park… the weather was beautiful and just got better all weekend.

Chloe made her church debut today. Her doctors had asked that she stay away from large crowds for quite a while, but now that she is over 10 pounds we were allowed to take her out to such functions. She actually had on a polka dot dress with green, blue, and brown polka dots but I didn’t get a picture. We matched… I thought it was cute and Josh laughed. Next week she is being dedicated at the church Josh and I got married in in Ohio by Josh’s brother. We are excited about this! It will also be her first trip to Ohio.

I always feel bad for nine. Why would I feel bad for a number? Well – Seven ate nine and I just think that is sad. Ok – so I am corny and a little dorky, but you all love that about me.

Today’s outfit felt somewhat romantic. That shade of purple paired with a flower and pink shoes says romantic to me. I guess that could also be because Valentine’s day is coming up and I am thinking about romance.

There is something about successfully mixing patterns that makes me extremely happy and kind of smug. I used to never mix patterns. It was a no-no in my mind. You could only wear one thing with a pattern on it and that was it. Then I started to see patterns being mixed in design and though how chic and sophisticated it looked. Then I started reading blogs and was inspired by others that could mix patterns. Then I discovered that I too – could mix patterns. I do think that there is an art to mixing patterns and maintaining my personal style. I personally don’t ever want to mix patterns and get super crazy because although that works for other people – that doesn’t fall into my style or lifestyle. So when I find the right mix or I put together pieces that I thought would work and they do I feel accomplished and like I have a secret that others do not. (Ok – so in reality I know that there are way more talented pattern mixers than me… but outfits like today’s make me feel super talented like them – I think this is where the smugness comes from). But I have developed a few simple rules for pattern mixing –

1. Use a small pattern with a larger pattern (see – check out the small plaid with the large stripes)
2. Keep it in the family – the color family that is (see how all of this is in pinks)
3. Use variations of the same pattern ( see – here is a thin stripe with a much bolder stripe)
4. Keep them separated. (see – here are patterned shoes with patterned shorts… lots of space between them)
5. Use textures to help (patterns in tights mix well with patterns in clothing)

Above all else – I think that stripes mix the best with other patterns and have fun! Who knew that you could wear florals and stripes together… but they make my outfit shine today!

Accessorizing

Day 7 is all about the difference that accessorizing can make when wearing the same garment. If you recall, last week I wore these gray pants and I really didn’t like the result of the outfit but it was functional for being home all day and starting to get sick so I went with it. Today, I wore an equally casual shirt with these pants but added a few fun stylish accessories and I love the feel of this outfit much more.

I once had a co-worker say to me that my closet must be endless because she has never seen me wear the same thing twice. I wasn’t sure how to take that statement at first. I know that she meant it as a compliment, but it also made me feel uncomfortable. Does she think that I just buy outfits and wear them once? That is a complete waste. Does she think that I am wasteful? I also thought – I rewear things all the time, I just don’t usually wear them in the exact same way. I then decided to take it as a great compliment that I am a good remixer – way better at it ten I thought I was, because if I can make coworkers think that I never wear the same thing twice and I know that I wear the same pieces all the time it must be the remixing magic!

Six

Well I spent yesterday in my pj’s wrapped up in a blanket on the couch. I went through two boxes of tissues and had about 10 cups of tea. I missed the fun super bowl party we were planning to attend with some of Josh’s friends but am finally feeling better. I did discover that as much as I love my apple cinnamon tea, when I am sick good old fashioned lipton tea with honey hits the spot. The other good thing is that Chloe does not show any signs of sickness… anyways back to the 30 for 30 remixing and here is my 6th outfit on the 7th day. Don’t worry though – I know that I have a few outfits planned that go from day to night that I will be show-casing later this month and that will make up for missing one day.

When I stalked this sweater at Target until it went on sale, I had visions of this plaid shirt to go underneath it. I must say that I love love love this combination!!! I also like adding the gold. For a long time I was leery of wearing gold, but in the last year I have loved using metallic gold in little bits. It always reminds me of my grandma on my mom’s side. Although my grandma passed when I was 5, I know that she had a love for all things shiny and my mom and I have talked about how grandma would love certain shoes and other shiny metallics or animal prints that I have. It makes me smile a little that I have inherited a little bit of that love.

Here is to hoping that I continue to mend – more tea, soup, and cuddling up on the couch are in my plans for tonight.
